AeroAfrica-EU initiative paves the way for collaboration
One of the goals achieved over the past year to facilitate
collaboration was the initiation of a mapping exercise for the
purpose of creating a database of EU and South African/African
aeronautics research capabilities. To help the project team populate the database, please
register your organisation on our website.

Supporting the EU FP7
Two FP7 Call Analysis workshops were held in Pretoria
and Stellenbosch to create awareness around FP7, provide an
overview of AeroAfrica-EU as well as FP7 project processes
and DST supporting instruments.
High Level Advisory Group
A High Level Advisory Group has been established comprising
well-known European and African experts from academia,
industry and the research community to advance the project's
objectives.
Policy and collaboration
The relationship with the EU is one of South Africa's most
strategic partnerships in international science and technology
relations.

ALFA-BIRD set to soar with development of alternative fuels for aviation industry
ALFA-BIRD (Alternative Fuels
and Biofuels for Aircraft Development)
was established to develop a range
of alternative fuels that will meet strict
operational aviation constraints, such
as flight in cold conditions, and ensure
compatibility with current civil aircraft,
which may have lifespans of almost 50
